Zum: Dear Captains Earlier this week there was another pirate attack in Nigerian waters. This notice is sent to make sure that we share the facts and there is no miscommunications being circulated. Following is the information on what occurred last night and early this morning concerning the Jascon 55 and the MT Kalamos, I have issued this so that all personnel have the facts and not any miss information about any attack on one of our vessels. On Tuesday 3rd Feb at around 2220 hrs LT, MT Kalamos was attacked in a position approximately 20NM from the shore near Akwa Ibom (04 deg 12.3 N 008 deg 04.4E.) The attack involved two speedboats with seven gunmen onboard each boat. Eight of the pirates then climbed onboard the MT Kalamos and kidnapped three crew members (2nd Engineer and 2 ABs although this is to be confirmed.) The pirates seriously wounded the Chief Engineer. The MT Kalamos was seven miles from the Jascon 55. On hearing of the attack the Jascon 55’s Captain assessed the situation and moved his vessel closer to Edop-A to camouflage it in the lights of the platform. Security boats present in the vicinity of the piracy attack gave chase and drove the pirates from the field. Later that evening the OMC requested the Jascon 55 to proceed towards the MT Kalamos to rendezvous with the security boat “Sea Chaser” and provide medical support. At 00:35 a helicopter arrived onboard Jascon 55 with a paramedic onboard. At 01:22 the IP was transferred to the Jascon 55. Our medic attended the IP but it was immediately apparent that the IP was deceased. He was then transported ashore for repatriation. General elections are starting in Nigeria and we are witness a small increase in vessel attacks. We expect this activity to continue until after the elections. It is very important that we are prepared for any possible attacks on our vessels.
shtypman: The explosion occurred at 12:50 local time on February 11 on board the FPSO vessel known as Cidade de São Mateus, operating on the Camarupim and Camarupim Norte fields that sit roughly 60 miles off the coast of Espirito Santo state. BW Offshore, a U.S. oil services company, said in a statement that 10 people were injured, and three were killed in the blast. Petrobras triggered the emergency response immediately. Production has been stopped and the unit has been shut down, BW Offshore said. According to the information published by the union on social media websites, 32 workers managed to leave the vessel unharmed. The accident was reportedly caused by a gas leak in the engine room. The Brazilian Airport Infrastructure Company (Infraero) announced a plan implemented to help helicopters with landing and takeoff at the Airport of Vitória, in the state capital. The first helicopter landed at 03:30 pm (GMT -3). Infraero press office further reported that 14 ambulances were called to drive the injured to the nearest hospitals. The accident comes at a time when Petrobras faces harsh public scrutiny surrounding a long-term scandal involving contractors and politicians that laundered hundreds of millions of dollars from the government, ultimately wiping out half of the company’s market share when investors lost trust in the company. On Tuesday evening, barely 24 hours before the explosion on the rig, Aldemir Bendine, the boss of the company, was on TV giving a rare interview on Brazil's leading news programme - in an attempt to convince investors and the general public of his leadership credentials. The scandal involves alleged price-fixing, bribes and kickbacks, which implicates Brazil's ruling party. Prosecutors have uncovered around $800m in bribes and other illegal funds. More than 200 businesses are being investigated and more than 80 people, including three former executives from Petrobras, are facing possible charges. Gvidon: Saudi Aramco asks owners for massive 30% rate cuts A key charterer wants owners to bite the bullet on rates despite average earnings for Middle Eastern OSVs having already fallen compared with last yearThe powerful state-owned oil company belonging to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has just called in shipowners to ask them to take across-the-board reductions in vessel day rates, in some cases as high as an eye-watering 30%, say reliable sources. While vessel contract renegotiations appear to have become a feature of the global offshore markets, the recent sharp fall in the oil price had already prompted a significant number of oil companies and contractors in the Middle East to ask owners for rate reductions, which were already quite high at 10% to 15%.However, for the Middle East, that pressure actually contributed to even steeper falls in average rates for the market as a whole, up to 18% for some types, when comparing last month’s averages with yearly averages in 2014 for offshore support vessels (OSVs). Now, state-owned Saudi Aramco has asked owners for even deeper rate cuts on platform supply vessels (PSVs) and anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels, according to offshore brokers with close ties to the region. Based on vessel age, the hefty cuts are meant for modern ships, including newbuildings. Saudi Aramco is said to be asking for whopping 30% discounts for OSVs built between 2008 and 2010, 23% cuts for OSVs built between 2010 and 2012 and 20% reductions for ships built from 2012 and up to newbuildings.“One of the large vessel owners in the region has already gone back to them and said, ‘No chance. We are not reducing’. But some people will reduce and it will get quite messy,” said the source, referring to potential hefty losses for owners. In terms of the significance of a 30% reduction in rates, recent research from Pareto Securities pointed out that a 30% fall in their baseline scenario for OSV owners would, in some cases, more than double an owner’s ratio of debt to earnings, which would then put considerable pressure on meeting interest obligations.“I think we will see more oil companies skipping options or asking to renegotiate rates,” said the source. “There has been a cost-cutting exercise going on across the offshore industry in the last couple of years and it will carry on.” As an indication of where the levels are in the Middle East, rates have been dropping, especially for medium PSVs and small AHTS vessels with dynamic positioning one (DP1), according to the most recent sector roundup from RS Platou Offshore. As of Platou’s January report, average Middle Eastern term rates had fallen substantially from the year-to-date averages in 2014. Sliding AHTS term rates AHTS vessels of 5,000 bhp were earning an average of $9,500 per day, which was a 14% fall from 2014 as a whole. AHTS vessels of 6,500 bhp were at $11,000 per day, making a 10% decline from the averages in 2014, while AHTS vessels of 7,500 bhp were at $12,000 per day, or an 18% decline. For PSVs of less than 500 square metres (sqm) of deck space, the most recent rate averages were at around $11,500 per day, which amounts to a 10.3% from the average in 2014. And PSVs of 500 sqm to 750 sqm of deck space were at $15,000 per day, or a 15% fall from 2014. In the case of a 30% cut, this means, depending on the age, that Saudi Aramco could be asking an owner of a larger PSV to shave another $4,500 off a $15,000-per-day rate, which had already fallen from an average of $17,650 per day just in 2014.“I know oil companies are under pressure to save but they really need to get a better perspective on actual vessel costs because some of these proposed cuts are just not possible,” said another broker.

AlexS: Не путать salary day rate и vessels day rate.

Gvidon: MMA Offshore improves H1 results, warns of tough market outlook MMA Offshore, a merger of the businesess of Mermaid Marine Australia and Jaya Holdings, has posted a strong increase in earnings in the first half ended 31 December 2014 but is anticipating a more challenging second half.Net profit for the six-month period was recorded at $37.7m, an increase of 55.8% from $24.2m in the previous corresponding period.Revenue also jumped 80% year-on-year to $456.3m backed by strong contributions from a number of key Australian vessel projects.MMA Offshore said its first half results include the full impact of the Jaya business and are in line with expectations.Following Mermaid Marine Australia’s purchase of 100% of the subsidiaries of Jaya Holdings in June 2014, the company has united the two businesses under a single global brand named MMA Offshore. At present, the rebranded MMA Offshore has a fleet of over 60 modern OSVs and four onshore facilities in Southeast Asia and Australia.Looking ahead, MMA Offshore expects activity in the second half to be weaker than the first half as a result of reduced Australian project activity as Gorgon construction completes, combined with the impact of lower oil prices. The company also expects further downward pressure on rates as clients continue to focus on cost reductions.“The recent plunge in the oil price has had a dramatic impact on the sector globally with oil and gas majors reacting by curbing capital expenditure and seeking to reduce their operating costs,” said Tony Howarth, chairman of MMA Offshore.“The Australian construction market is less impacted in that most of the current offshore support work relates to the construction of large LNG projects which have already been sanctioned and are well into the construction phase,” Howarth commented.“The international market is expected to be challenging in the current environment with pressure on rates and utilisation across all vessel segments,” he added.Meanwhile, MMA Offshore said its newbuild programme is on track with five new vessels currently under construction, including two ROV support vessels to be delivered in 2016 and two PSVs in 2017
As I am sure you are aware, the Oil & Gas industry is facing a very challenging period. Similar to other companies in this sector, the current situation is a major cause for concern as the operators begin to look at the viability of their projects and the sustainability of their operations. It should be evident to all of you that our immediate schedule and our longer term vessel backlog have suffered as a result. Unfortunately, this affects directly our ability to guarantee full employment for HOCS personnel manning and operating these vessels, and as a consequence we have been forced to reduce the amount of contracted days that we can provide to each crew member. Therefore, in order for us to try to avoid any offshore job losses we need to take immediate action to cut our committed salary costs. We propose that with effect from 1st March 2015 to reduce contract days and salaries accordingly. The future of our business is uncertain, certainly when compared to recent years, but we are confident that if we can reduce our costs during this difficult period we will be ideally placed to maintain our dominance in the market when things improve. What happens next? We appreciate this change will affect you and your salary so we will now write to each of you individually informing you of the change, your revised salary and new target days. This has been sent to you tomorrow by Royal Mail. We also realise that these contractual changes will result in lots of questions and we have attempted to address these in the enclosed Q&A sheet. What happens if I don’t accept it? We hope you appreciate the situation we are in and that we not making these changes lightly. We would ask for your acceptance to these changes. If we do not receive full acceptance from the offshore workforce to these changes we will be forced to look at other cost cutting measures which may unfortunately include redundancies. We recognise this is a difficult time but believe by making these changes the Company will survive this unsettled period. Should you wish to discuss this further please contact your Offshore Manager or Human Resources Department in Aberdeen. Helix Well Ops (UK) Ltd

vint_bond: Siem Offshore Inc. has decided to streamline its business by forming one dedicated organisation for its core offshore vessel business named “Siem Offshore OSV”. The remaining business consisting of Siem Offshore Contractors, Joides Resolution, Siem Wis, the combat management business in Brazil and certain property investments will be organisationally separated and operated under the name of SIEM Offshore Industrial Investments. The Board believes that the changes will help focus and develop the core offshore vessel business as well as be beneficial in developing and growing the business in Siem Offshore Contractors and finding strategic solutions for the other businesses. Initially the split will be implemented in the management organisation. Over time a legal split of the two businesses into separate companies may be implemented.
